Visiting the Museo Lázaro Galdiano from your mobile is now possible. The Foundation is launching its official iPhone application, which has been developed with Ventour. The Museo Lázaro Galdiano app, adapted to people with sight and hearing impairments, can be your guide during the visit or a new way to dive deeper into the exhibition without leaving home. Downloading and accessing all its content is free (content only available in Spanish).
In this visit you will get to know the most representative works from the collection of José Lazaro, spread over the four floors of the museum. The combination of current and historical photographs, along with the narrations, descriptions and maps, will help you understand the building’s past and the uniqueness of each piece, and discover the secrets of the museum. The app will pre-select content for you, making navigation easier. Pressing the pause button will bring up a menu with additional options: a table of contents, accessibility resources, practical information of the museum, etc.
On the first screen of the Lázaro Galdiano Museum app you can activate or deactivate the accessibility options, selecting those that will be useful for the visit. This museum has included the following options: audio description (additional descriptions for the blind), subtitling (textual translation of the voice-over), videos in Spanish sign language, as well as the possibility of enabling or disabling the sound. GVAM’s technology also ensures compatibility with Apple’s VoiceOver app, so that blind people can use it on equal terms. The museum’s accessible contents have been produced by CESyA, following an initiative of the Royal Board on Disability.
At the moment the app is only available for iPhone. This museum offers tablet loan guides for visitors who do not have a smartphone. These multimedia guides were released in 2011 as part of the “Comprehensive Spanish Strategy for Culture for All”. The development of the Lázaro Galdiano app has been possible thanks to the support of the Ministry of Culture and its investment program to increase the supply of digital content.
For those of you who still cannot enjoy this mobile visit, we have prepared a short video demonstration. We hope you like it!
