GVAM reinforces its position as a technological leader in the field of major museums and monuments with the development of the new smart guides for the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba. The project represents a decisive step toward bringing the visitor experience of this heritage icon to the level of other major monuments managed by the company in Spain

The Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, is one of the most unique cultural assets in the world, the result of more than a thousand years of history. The superposition of Islamic and Christian stages has shaped a unique space of extraordinary historical value that requires technological solutions that are both impactful and robust.
In a project of this caliber, in addition to enhancing the audiovisual quality of the content, it is equally necessary to master the context of use: data coverage, acquisition flow from ticket purchase, IT security, and diverse ergonomics. These ‘invisible’ elements are what set GVAM apart through the reliability of its technology, serving thousands of daily users across several of the world’s best-known monuments.

With the inauguration of the new Mosque Visitor Reception Center, a four-year contract has commenced, which includes smart rental devices and a web app for the visitor’s mobile phone. The entire system integrates seamlessly into GVAM’s Ventour content management ecosystem and its behavioral data platform, GStats.
The production of content was supervised by a team of experts and translated into 10 languages. It features 360º videos, 3D reconstructions, VR experiences, and an impressive augmented reality panoramic view from the Mosque’s minaret. The application includes interactive maps, a predictive search engine, QR codes, and a numeric keypad. It has been distributed into several thematic tours adapted to available time, children, and the different visitable areas of the complex: the new museum at the Visitor Reception Center, the outdoor area of the Mosque, the Visigothic Cathedral, the Christian Cathedral, and the Arabic Mosque.

Accessibility is one of the main pillars of the project. To this end, GVAM, in collaboration with experts, has developed a solution that includes audio description for visually impaired individuals, sign language videos, and a navigation interface that complies with the demanding standards of the European Accessibility Act (EAA).
The service also features a visitor support team that, since last January, has been in charge of the logistical and informational tasks associated with both individual device loans and groups. GVAM’s staff are experts in digital products, ensuring a smooth and personalized daily operation for both the visitor and the Chapter (Cabildo).
With this project, GVAM adds the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba to the group of cultural heritage sites featuring its smart guides, reaffirming its commitment to technological innovation applied to cultural heritage and to a more accessible, integrated, and sustainable way of visiting.
