THE CATHEDRAL OF SEVILLE RENEWS ITS DIGITAL VISITORS GUIDE

THE CATHEDRAL OF SEVILLE RENEWS ITS DIGITAL VISITORS GUIDE

Seville Cathedral is one of the most visited monuments in Spain and the largest cathedral in the world. Given this importance, the interactive audio guide, which serves as a support for visitors, has just been renewed to continue offering an exclusive experience, with high quality graphic content and the latest generation of mobile technology.

One of the great novelties of the digital guide is its multiple navigation system through the implementation, in the lower area of the screen, of a series of quick accesses such as the map to locate the different points of the route, the list of the works and its textual search engine, the keyboard to locate the works by the number of the cartouche, as well as an intuitive system that allows to go forward and backward in the sequence of recommended contents for each route.

Another of the challenges of this application was to provide interactive experiences of the Seville Cathedral to the visit, to discover complementary content through advanced technologies, but without diminishing the cultural value of the monument.

The first of the solutions is a panoramic view of the entire city of Seville seen from the Giralda Tower. A way of identifying and finding out about the city’s points of interest from this privileged vantage point. The second solution offers an interactive way of discovering the most outstanding scenes of the impressive altarpiece of the High Altar by simply clicking on the icons marked on the image. These functions are ready to be applied to other content units when the Heritage Commission of the Cabildo so decides.

The audio guide is priced at €4 or €5 depending on whether the visitor downloads it to their mobile phone in webapp format, or rents it pre-loaded on smart devices, which are available at the Cathedral’s ticket offices. To facilitate this purchase, the guide can be purchased together with the ticket through the online ticketing platform. The system will provide restricted access to the webapp or printathome with the device reservation. The whole process is simple and secure, as well as allowing the Cathedral to maintain the traceability of the entire operation, including the usage and behaviour statistics that distinguish GVAM applications.

The new smart guide, developed by GVAM, is notable for including various routes and high quality images that offer an even more detailed view of numerous works of art and the cathedral’s architecture. 200 high-resolution photographs highlight each and every one of the more than 50 points of interest included in the cathedral’s route.

In addition to the general tour, the application incorporates other visit options, such as the children’s tour, with explanations focused on the youngest visitors, and the visit to the cathedral in 1 hour, in which the most significant points of the general tour are highlighted.

The importance of this new smart audio guide does not lie exclusively in its innovative nature, but also in its focus on accessibility and cultural dissemination, ensuring that every visitor can immerse themselves in the secrets and beauty of Seville Cathedral.
