The Prado, the Thyssen-Bornemisza and the Reina Sofía, three of the world’s most important museums, are all on the great Paseo del Prado. Dotted with gardens and fountains, this boulevard was created in the 18th century as a space for recreation and enjoyment for residents and visitors. Commonly known as The Art Walk, the area it marks out contains over 4000 pieces of art by the great universal masters, from Velázquez and Goya to Picasso and Dalí, going through Van Gogh Hopper and Joan Miró. The “Essential Art Walk” initiative was launched by Madrid Town Hall, describing it as a “way to discover and learn about the 24 (8 in each of the museums) essential and fundamental works in depth, in a fun and simple way”.
